Junction with W&B **

navigable canal

SP 044 830

* Cyclists may also follow the route, but may prefer to avoid the stiles on the field footpath between the Western Portal and the A456, by taking a detour down Lapal Lane South and turning left onto the A456's roadside footpath, to use the crossing just beyond the Black Horse pub. The Lapal Project is signed at that point. As you cycle along the A456, the hedge-row and tree-line, to your left in the middle-distance, is the approximate line of the infilled canal.

** The position of the former Selly Oak Junction is almost exactly beneath the overhead power lines as they cross the W&B towpath, which is also higher than normal in this general vicinity.
Indeed, the mid-point of the junction is almost exactly beneath the uppermost line (the tower-to-tower bonding wire) as it crosses the towpath.
